Green Growth Africa Network

Rising Roots Project

About the Project

Ghana’s entrepreneurial landscape is multifaceted, with recent reports highlighting a surge in promising prospects, particularly among young innovators from marginalized communities. However, these entrepreneurs face numerous challenges, contributing to an average failure rate of 74%, as reported by Mumbi, 2023. These challenges include poor understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape, limited knowledge of product design and inappropriate marketing, a lack of capital to scale up innovations, and limited access to social networks or entrepreneurial support systems to promote mentorship that will sustain and scale up interventions. The case is not different in the Central Region of Ghana, where young innovators struggle to scale their innovations and provide employment for many dependents. Green Growth Africa seeks to harness the potential of young innovators and atypical entrepreneurs within the Central Region to ensure a thriving rural economy through the UNDP – Mastercard led Program: Young Africa Innovates (YAI). We seek to innovatively scout, collaborate and scale up grassroots innovations and businesses, promoting entrepreneurship and employment in the region.

Objectives
The project goal will be met through the synergistic implementation of the following objectives
1.Scout, identify and select young innovators and atypical entrepreneurs to be enrolled in the Young Africa Innovates (YAI) Program.
2.Establish a robust network of local entrepreneurs to facilitate grassroots innovation and entrepreneurship within the Central Region of Ghana through the Young Africa Innovates (YAI) Program.
3.Establish a strong stakeholder forum at the grassroots level including local government, traditional authorities, youth and women’s groups, and private sector entities, to support and sustain the project’s outcomes and promote entrepreneurship within the Central region.
