Green Growth Africa Network

Socio-Economic Empowerment (SEE) Accra Project

Accra’s high population density presents a number of challenges, including issues related to environmental degradation, pollution, and social inequality. Green Growth Africa Network(GGAN) program is designed to address these challenges in a comprehensive way, by focusing on creating green jobs, enhancing skills and mentorship opportunities, and strengthening the informal sector.

The project is subdivided into several components;

  • Street Hawkers livelihood enhancement program.
  • Youth Employability & Entrepreneurship Program.
  • Street-Girl Life Empowerment Challenge

The Street Hawkers Livelihood Enhancement Program is a key component of the program, as it aims to provide support and training to street vendors. Street vending is a common occupation in Accra, but it is often associated with low income and lack of job security. The program seeks to address these issues by providing financial support and business training to street vendors, enabling them to improve their livelihoods and build sustainable businesses.

The Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship Program is another important component of the program, as it focuses on equipping young people with relevant skills and knowledge to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship potential. This is particularly important in a city like Accra, where unemployment rates are high and many young people struggle to find meaningful employment.

The Street-Girl Life Empowerment Challenge is aimed at empowering young girls through mentorship and skills development. This component of the program recognizes the unique challenges faced by young girls in Accra, including issues related to gender inequality and lack of access to education and job opportunities. By providing mentorship and skills development opportunities, the program aims to empower young girls to achieve their full potential and build meaningful and sustainable careers.

Together, these components of the GGAN program represent a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges faced by Accra’s communities. By focusing on creating green jobs, enhancing skills and mentorship opportunities, and strengthening the informal sector, the program aims to promote sustainable and equitable development in Accra, while also improving the lives of its residents.
